Heidi Schneider – Board Chair
Heidi Schneider is a lawyer and educator. She teaches outreach classes to adult and high school audiences concerning Judaism and Israel. Heidi is the coordinator of the Israel Leadership Fellows Program for high school teens, which is part of Yachad Jewish community school. Her adult classes in Judaism include such topics as the Jewish calendar and holidays, Jewish lifecycle events, a taste of Talmud, the Jewish Sabbath, Jewish spirituality in the workplace, and Jewish prayer. She also teaches about “The Challenge of Peace: Understanding the Middle East Conflict” and “Beyond the Headlines” concerning Israel and the Palestinians and Israel’s Arab neighbors. She has traveled to Israel, Jordan, and Turkey, and has hosted many Israeli young people in her home. Heidi is a sought-after teacher. Recent audience members have called her “extremely knowledgeable,” “professional and considerate,” “eloquent,” and “candid and balanced.”
Heidi began her law career as a law clerk for the Honorable George G. Fagg on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. She practiced law for fifteen years as a commercial litigator in Minneapolis. She also provided counseling pro bono to elderly and disabled Russian immigrants seeking naturalization in the United States. Heidi has also worked as an instructor at the University of Minnesota Law School, teaching legal writing and oral advocacy to first-year law students.
She has served on the Board of Trustees of Carleton College, the Minnesota Private Colleges Council, the Minneapolis Jewish Day School, the Masorti Foundation, and as President of her Jewish congregation, Adath Jeshurun, in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Heidi has also served as an annual fund chair for Carleton College, Adath Jeshurun, and chaired the Masorti National Gala in 2017.
Heidi is a magna cum laude graduate of Carleton College. She has a master’s degree in Education from Columbia Teachers College, where she was a Joseph Klingenstein Fellow. She received her law degree from the University of Minnesota, and received a creative nonfiction certificate from the Loft Literary Center. Heidi is married to Joel Mintzer and keeps busy with her two boys.
