Hemdat Yamim – The Masorti congregation in the Krayot, is the only liberal synagogue that operates within a population of a quarter of a million people in the Haifa suburbs (the “Krayot”), a place we love, raise families, know well and are proud to live. We maintain an egalitarian and pluralistic Judaism in which the whole family takes part. In the synagogue, men and women carry the same roles and pray together without barriers.
All the activities of the congregation are based on the members volunteering and are conducted with great success.
The people of Hemdat Yamim believe that it is important to allow all the public to serve in the religious and cultural aspects of Judaism, with an emphasis on pluralistic thought, and the values of Zionism and democracy.
Our activities are based on the principle of Tikkun Olam and acceptance of those who can be rejected by other streams, as well as assistance to our friends and, if necessary, to all those around us.
The synagogue is active throughout the year. The services are held on Fridays for Kabbalat Shabbat and on Saturday for Shabbat morning prayers and holiday’s prayers.
The congregation, as a learning community, organizes enrichment studies, such as studying prayers, Bible and Rosh Chodesh studies and other topics. We also prepare boys and girls for the Bar or Bat Mitzvah ceremony individually and collectively, as needed. As part of our prayers, we conduct life cycle ceremonies including Zabed HaBat, Bar-Bat Mitzvah, Shabbat Hatan-Kallah and Study and Prayers in the House of Mourning.
