Rabbi Harold J. Kravitz holds the Max Newman Family Chair in Rabbinics at Adath Jeshurun Congregation, Minnetonka, MN. He has served the congregation since 1987, when he was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary. He is the Immediate Past Board Chair of MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger. He currently serves as an officer of the Rabbinical Assembly, Financial Secretary, and also on the RA’s Va’ad Hakavod (Professional Ethics Committee), which he chaired for six years.
Rabbi Kravitz has raised the profile of the Masorti Movement in Israel, in the Twin Cities and nationally among his rabbinic peers. He assured that Masorti became an annual giving priority for the Minneapolis Jewish Federation. He has been a tireless fundraiser for Masorti, its projects and its kehillot, including Adath Jeshurun’s special sister relationship with Magen Avraham in Omer.
Rabbi Kravitz was instrumental in raising funds for the bomb shelter at Magen Avraham, and in nurturing and advancing the kehillah’s unique Rabbinic Intern program. Rabbi Kravitz includes visits to Masorti congregations as an essential part of congregational trips, bringing his congregants face-to-face with Masorti Jews in Israel and educating them about the vitality of the Masorti Movement. Rabbi Kravitz serves on the Rabbinic Cabinet of the Masorti Foundation, a national cohort that provides an advisory and fundraising role for the Foundation.
He is married to Cindy Reich. They are the parents of Gabriel (Yael Smiley), Talia and Elana.
